Wow! It is already Independence Day! A time when we remember and cherish the freedoms we have as citizens of the United States of America.
This is also a reminder the tax deadline is looming, just 13 days away. There are many reasons to file your taxes. Economic Impact Stimulus Package is available to eligible taxpayers along with their minor dependent children. If anyone in the family enrolled in college courses, there is American Opportunity or Lifetime Learning Credit available when filing a return. The child tax credit is available to all who have dependent children. Under 17, the amount is $2,000 per child. Over 17, the amount is $500.
If you filed a paper return, there is no need to file a second return. The IRS is behind because of COVID, employees were furloughed and are just now coming back into offices. You can check the status of your return by going to www.irs.gov and clicking on the button “Where is my refund.” Be patient. It has not been a good year for any of us!
