It is that time of year, again. The new tax season is approaching. Just a reminder, for your peace of mind, when you receive envelopes that say “Tax Documents Enclosed” put them all together in one folder where you open your mail.
The IRS and Indiana will (presumably) open for filing on January 20, 2025 for filing and will end on April 15, 2025.
Many organizations including employers, brokerage companies, banks with interest bearing accounts, Lyft and Uber no longer provide mailed copies of your documents. You must go online to your accounts and print the year-end documents. Most websites will identify your documents as either “Year-End” or “Tax Documents.” Usually a drop down arrow will allow you to select the year needed.
Regretfully, this year brings the news that I must raise my fees. Like everyone else, my expenses have gone up. The basic return will be $140. Additional forms for small business, rentals, etc. will remain at $35 each. Included with my fee is audit protection. If the IRS or the state questions your return, Protection Plus will help you with whatever the agency claims is wrong. Protection Plus also includes identity theft protection for one year from the filing date, if you find yourself in that position.
I have made the decision that, going forward, I will not be taking any new clients. I will only be doing taxes for one more year as I found another preparer who is interested in buying my business.
